Venus |
|
| Venus is the
planet that is most like Earth in terms of size, composition, and
mass, but that is where the similarities end. On Venus, The atmosphere is very hot and very dense. Composed mainly of carbon dioxide and clouds of sulfuric acid, (which are greenhouse gazes) Venus has surface temperatures reaching 483 degrees Celcius. If you were on Venus the atmosphere would be so heavy you would feel like you are at the bottom of the ocean. In fact, the combination of the dense atmosphere and high temperatures have crushed metal spacecrafts that have landed on venus, in just a few hours. Venus takes 225 days to orbit the sun and 243 Earth days to rotate once on its axis. This means that a Venusian day is longer than a Venusian year. If we used this rate of time on Earth, a single day would then be four months long! Venus is the only planet to spin backwards relative to the other planets in the solar system. This retrograde motion means that on Venus the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. |
