Meteorites |
|
| Do you ever
make a wish when you see a shooting star? Well, you are actually wishing on a meteor. A meteoroid is a clump of metallic debris, often no larger than a pebble, traveling through space. When the meteoroid enters our atmosphere it begins to glow and is called a meteor. The friction between the debris and the gases in the atmosphere usually only allows the meteor to glow for a few seconds before burning out. When the meteor does not burn out, the chunk of rock that crashes into the ground is called a meteorite. If a meteorite is large enough, it causes a crater. |
