| The Earth is
the 3rd planet from the Sun. It has an atmosphere composed of mainly nitrogen and oxygen, and 75% of the Earth's surface is covered in water. Our atmosphere and water help sustain life on earth. 1) The atmospheric gases cause most meteors to burn up before hitting the surface of the Earth. But more important, our Atmosphere protects us from the dangerous rays emitted by the Sun. 2) Water is crucial for life. Like the other planets in our Solar System, Earth orbits the Sun and rotates on its axis. Unlike other planets, Earth rotates on a tilt which is why we have seasons in the year instead of having the same temperatures all the time. We have one natural satellite, our Moon, whose gravitational pull causes tides. |
