The name means “swift robber,” a good description for this fast, carnivorous dinosaur. Standing only three feet (1 m) tall and six feet (2 m) long on two legs, the Velociraptor could reach up to forty miles per hour (64 km/h). It was not big, but it was dangerous because of its speed, agility, and its “killing claw.” This claw, on the second toe of each foot, was over three inches (8 cm) long; while walking or running, Velociraptor held the claw out of the way. When it moved in for a kill, a strong tendon snapped the claw down and into the flesh of its prey. It hunted the young of large herbivores, such as Protoceratops. Teamwork and intelligence made the Velociraptor a deadly enemy. Notes: IMPORTANT:
