During that time, they were the largest carnivores in North America, though they still had to compete for food with their slightly smaller rival, Ceratosaurus. The Allosaurus had distinct bony ridges above the eyes, giving it a ferocious appearance. As a carnivore, the Allosaurus spent its time looking for enough meat to fuel its large body, which was thirty-three to thirty-nine feet (10-12 m) in length and between three and five tons. Once the prey was spotted, the Allosaurus used its giant, muscular legs to run short distances at twenty miles per hour (32 km/h). Although the arms were small, they were also deadly; the Allosaurus had three fingers tipped with powerful claws. These claws ripped apart the flesh of large herbivores such as Stegosaurus. Then, the Allosaurus used its pointed teeth to pierce other animals; finally, Allosaurus swallowed the meat without much chewing. Notes: IMPORTANT:
